Saidiya Hartman

Saidiya Hartman (Nova Iorque, 1961) é investigadora, professora do Departamento de Inglês e Literatura Comparada da Universidade de Colúmbia e autora das obras Scenes of Subjection: Terror, Slavery, and Self-Making in Nineteenth-Century America (1997), Lose Your Mother: A Journey along the Atlantic Slave Route (2007) e da obra Vidas Rebeldes, Belas Experiências, vencedora do National Book Critics Circle Award em 2019. Hartman tem-se dedicado a identificar o legado da escravatura na vida moderna norte-americana e a resgatar do esquecimento histórias de vidas pouco documentadas e sistematicamente excluídas dos arquivos históricos. Reconhecida com diversas distinções académicas e bolsas de investigação, tais como a MacArthur e a Fulbright, foi nomeada, em 2022, membro da Academia Americana de Artes e Ciências e ainda Escritora Internacional da Real Sociedade de Literatura do Reino Unido.
