Professor Catedrático da Faculdade de Desporto da Universidade do Porto. Responsável pelas áreas de Antropologia do Desporto e de Sociologia do Desporto dessa Instituição. Autor de vários livros, capítulos de livros e de artigos nacionais e internacionais sobre Ética do Desporto. Orientou diversas dissertações de mestrado e de doutoramento sobre a temática da Ética do Desporto. Colaborou com Universidades de Espanha, Angola e Brasil. Atualmente colabora com a Beijing Sport University. É Doutor Honoris Causa pela Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, Brasil.
