Rui Mota completou, em 2009, o curso de Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária na UTAD. Realizou o seu estágio curricular no Hospital de Referência Veterinária Montenegro, na Clínica Veterinária da Lagoa e no Serviço de Cardiologia do Small Animal Teaching Hospital, University of Liverpool. No mesmo ano, iniciou a sua atividade profissional no Hospital de Referência Veterinária Montenegro. Apresenta como principais áreas de interesse a Neurologia, a Cardiologia e a Imagiologia. Frequentou a pós-graduação GPCert (Small Animal Practice) da ESVPS. Desde setembro de 2011 que é o responsável clínico do Centro de Imagem Montenegro. Realizou diversas formações de TAC, RM e Neurologia em vários centros de referência na Europa.
