Rudolf Lanz nasceu em 1915 na cidade de Budapeste, Hungria, filho de pais alemães. Passou boa parte da infância e juventude em Berlim e estudou Direito em Londres, Friburgo, Munique e Genebra, onde se doutorou.
No Brasil, foi cofundador da Escola Waldorf Rudolf Steiner, presidente da Associação Pedagógica Rudolf Steiner e presidente da Sociedade Antroposófica, da qual foi um dos fundadores em 1982.
