Roy Taylor é professor de Medicina e Metabolismo na Universidade de Newcastle e consultor honorário do Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Formado em Medicina na Universidade de Edimburgo, deu aulas de Medicina em Yale, nos EUA, entre 1990 e 1991. De volta ao Reino Unido, angariou 5,2 milhões de libras para criar o Newcastle MR Centre. Desenvolveu também o sistema de triagem de doenças oculares diabéticas do Reino Unido e é autor de mais de 300 artigos científicos.
