Rotting Christ

Rotting Christ is one of the most influential metal bands in Greece, formed in 1987 in Athens by brothers Sakis Tolis (vocalist and guitarist) and Themis Tolis (drummer). Initially, the band started out with a sound heavily influenced by black metal, but over the years, they have evolved into a style that incorporates elements of gothic metal, death metal, and other subgenres, creating a unique sound that is distinguished by its dark atmosphere and introspective lyrics.

Rotting Christ's debut album, Thy Mighty Contract (1993), is considered a milestone of Greek black metal, helping to establish the black metal scene in Greece and influencing several other bands in the country and abroad. This album, along with subsequent Non Serviam (1994) and Triarchy of the Lost Lovers (1996), cemented the band's reputation as one of the leading forces in extreme metal.

Over the years, Rotting Christ has continued to evolve, incorporating elements of traditional Greek music, Gregorian choirs, and a variety of cultural and musical influences into their music. Albums such as Theogonia (2007) and Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy (2013) demonstrate this evolution, with complex compositions and lyrics that explore themes of mythology, history, and religion.

Rotting Christ is also known for his intense and atmospheric live performances, which complement the epic sound of his recordings. Despite several controversies over the years, including censorship and bans due to the band's name and the content of their lyrics, they remain one of the most respected and enduring bands in extreme metal worldwide.

The band maintains a loyal fan base around the world, and continues to release new albums and tour, always exploring new musical frontiers while staying true to their roots in extreme metal.
