De formação autodidata, iniciou a sua trajetória artística num estúdio de animação; também trabalhou na diagramação de livros e na conceção de cartazes para o cinema e teatro. Ilustrou textos de Eta Hoffmann, Charles Perrault, Oscar Wilde e Christophe Gallaz. As suas obras estão publicadas em todo o mundo. Entre outras distinções, recebeu a Maçã de Ouro na Bienal de Bratislava, a Medalha de Prata da Sociedade de Ilustradores de Nova Iorque e o Prémio Hans Christian Andersen 2008.
