Robert Mathews é um consagrado cientista britânico cuja opinião é altamente valorizada. Investigador convidado da Aston University em Birmingham, é pioneiro no estudo de áreas como Matemática, Estatística, Encriptação, geofísica e Astronomia.
A par da sua actividade de cientista Mathews é também jornalista premiado, colaborando regularmente com vários jornais, nomeadamente, o Finantial Times, The Times, The Economist e Subday Telegraph. Matthews é autor de vários títulos de ciência popular e Porque é Que os Gatos Ronronam e as Pessoas Falam Tanto? é o seu terceiro livro.
