Rita Carvalho nasceu em 1978, em Cascais. Licenciada em Ciências da Comunicação, pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa, foi jornalista durante 15 anos, no Diário de Notícias e no semanário SOL.
Trabalha atualmente com os jesuítas portugueses. Em 2017, publicou Papa Francisco e Os Três Pastorinhos e, em 2018, em coautoria com Rute Agulhas e Alexandra Anciães, Divórcio e Parentalidade – Diferentes Olhares: do Direito à Psicologia. É casada e tem duas filhas.
