Ricky Yancey nasceu em 1962, em Miami. Os seus livros foram já publicados em mais de vinte línguas e ganharam inúmeros prémios. A 5.ª Vaga, o primeiro volume da trilogia lançada em 2013, recebeu o Red House Children’s Book Award, foi finalista dos Goodreads Choice Awards, na categoria de Fantasia e Ficção Científica, e também dos Children’s Choice Book Awards na mesma categoria. A adaptação cinematográfica conta com Chloë Grace Moretz como protagonista. A trilogia encontra-se publicada em 25 países.
