Licenciado em Línguas e Literaturas Modernas (U. Coimbra, 2001); Mestre em Teoria da Literatura (U. Lisboa, 2004); Doutor em Teoria da Literatura (U. Lisboa, 2009); Mestre em Literatura Portuguesa (U. Coimbra, 2010); Pós-Doutorado em Estética e Hermenêutica (U. Coimbra, 2014).
Ensinou na Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra e nas Universidades de Coimbra e Estocolmo (Suécia).
É autor de 40 Anos de Teoria da Literatura em Portugal (2011), Teoria da Literatura e Interpretação: o Século XX em Três Argumentos (2014) e Before the Trenches: a Mapping of Problems in Literary Interpretation (2017).
