Renia Spiegel

Renia Spiegel was born in eastern Poland in 1924. In January 1939 she began keeping a diary. When the war began, she and her sister were living with their grandparents in Przemyśl. The war separated her from her mother, and during the following years she would live under Soviet and then Nazi occupation and witness the creation of the ghetto. In the summer of 1942, Renia was forced into hiding to try to escape the liquidation of the ghetto. A few days later, her hiding place was found and she was executed. Renia was only eighteen years old.
