Professor de Ciência do Solo. Ele obteve seus títulos na Michigan State University, Purdue University e Virginia Tech. Adquiriu uma fazenda de 500 hectares para cultivos orgânicos no estado da Carolina do Norte (EUA) e foi professor na University of Malawi (África). Ele tornou-se um líder internacional em sistemas agrícolas sustentáveis, tanto em países desenvolvidos como em desenvolvimento. Publicou mais de 60 artigos em periódicos científicos, além de seis livros. É membro da Soil Science Society of America e da American Society of Agronomy. O sinergismo entre o ensino do Dr. Weil, sua pesquisa e sua abordagem ecológica que sempre visou ao avanço da ciência do solo vêm sendo representadas, desde 1995, nas várias edições deste livro.
