Randy Pausch (outubro de 1960 / julho de 2008 ) foi Professor na Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) em Pittsburgh, Pensilvânia. Em Setembro de 2006 diagnosticaram-lhe um cancro metastático no pâncreas. Deu início a um tratamento muito agressivo que incluiu uma cirurgia e quimioterapia experimental. Mesmo assim disseram-lhe, em Agosto de 2007, que o cancro se espalhara para o baço e para o fígado. Foi aí que decidiu fazer quimioterapia paliativa de modo a prolongar a vida o mais possível, o que lhe permitiria viver com saúde durante mais algum tempo na Virginia com a mulher e os três filhos.
