Qais Akbar Omar gere o negócio de tapetes da sua família em Cabul e escreve livros. Em 2007 foi investigador convidado da Universidade do Colorado. Estudou Gestão de Empresas na Universidade Brandeis e está atualmente a tirar o mestrado de Escrita Criativa na Universidade de Boston. Omar deu palestras sobre os tapetes afegãos no Afeganistão, na Europa e nos Estados Unidos. Escreveu, com Stephen Landrigan, Shakespeare in Kabul.
