Pedro Gunnlaugur Garcia nasceu em Lisboa em 1983, filho de mãe islandesa e pai português. Criado maioritariamente em Reiquiavique, licenciou-se em Sociologia na Universidade da Islândia e fez um mestrado em Cultura e Comunicação.
O seu primeiro romance, Málleysingjarnir, publicado em 2019, valeu-lhe a bolsa «Novas Vozes», do Centro de Literatura Islandesa, tendo sido bem recebido por leitores e críticos por ser poderoso e escrito com uma segurança invulgar para uma estreia.
O seu segundo romance, Pulmões, foi um sucesso imediato e recebeu o prestigiado Prémio de Literatura da Islândia 2022, tendo cativado leitores na Islândia, Brasil, França, Alemanha e Polónia, estando prevista, para breve, a publicação em Espanha, México e Colômbia.
