Nascido em 1966, Paulo Ventura Araújo vive e trabalha no Porto. Foi coautor do livro À sombra de árvores com História, que Pacheco Pereira incluiu nos dez melhores livros de não-ficção de 2004. Gosta de fotografar plantas e paisagens, e duas dezenas de fotos suas apareceram no Guia de campo: as árvores e os arbustos de Portugal Continental, publicado em 2007 pela Liga para a Proteção da Natureza e pelo jornal Público. Doutorado em Matemática, leciona desde 1991 na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, onde hoje é professor associado.
