Paulo M. Coelho é professor auxiliar no Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica e Gestão Industrial na FEUP, tendo entrado para o Departamento como assistente estagiário em 1987. Já lecionou as cadeiras de termodinâmica, mecânica de fluidos, transferência de calor, máquinas térmicas, redes de gás, combustão e laboratório, distribuídas por um total de quatro licenciaturas e um curso de mestrado.

A sua atividade de investigação, realizada no Centro de Estudos de Fenómenos de Transporte, incide essencialmente sobre a vertente experimental dos escoamentos complexos de fluidos não-Newtonianos e em estudos analíticos de transferência de calor no interior de condutas.
