Paul-Marie Veyne, nascido em 1930 num meio popular que ele próprio definiu como inculto, apaixonou-se por arqueologia e história com a idade de 8 anos. Historiador, especialista na Roma antiga, da sua vasta bibliografia destacam-se L'empire gréco-romain, L'élégie érotique romaine, Le pain et le cirque. Nas Edições Texto & Grafia encontram-se já publicadas as obras Quando o Nosso Mundo se Tornou Cristão e >i>Foucault, o Pensamento, a Pessoa.
