Patrícia Melo é romancista, dramaturga e argumentista.
Publicou "Acqua Toffana" (1994), "O Matador" (1995; Prémios Deux Océans e Deutsch Krimi; nomeação para o Prix Femina de romance estrangeiro; adaptado ao cinema em 2003 com o título "O Homem do Ano"), "O Elogio da Mentira" (1998), "Inferno" (2000; Prémio Jabuti; nomeação para o Foreign Fiction Prize 2003, Inglaterra) e "Valsa Negra" (2003); todos os títulos foram editados em Portugal pela Campo das Letras.
Em 1999 a Time Magazine inclui-a entre os cinquenta "Latin-American Leaders for the New Millenium". As suas obras estão traduzidas em Inglaterra, França, Alemanha, Itália, Espanha, Holanda, Grécia, Finlândia e China, entre outros países.
