Alberto Ostini é apaixonado pelo cinema, e escreveu uma tese sobre Nanni Moretti, Ostini combina a sua atividade de publicitário e ensaísta com a de autor de sátiras políticas e como ensaísta colabora em revistas de crítica cinematográfica como Duel e Film. Organizou vários obras sobre BD entre as quais a mais célebre, Dylan Dog – Indocile sentimenti, arcane apure, que inclui a famosa entrevista de Umberto Eco a Tiziano Sclavi. Desde 1995 que colabora com a Sergio Bonelli Editore como argumentista em várias séries, incluindo Dylan Dog.
