Nuno Gonçalo Monteiro, licenciado, doutorado e agregado em História, é investigador coordenador do Instituto de Ciências Sociais e docente na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa. Professor visitante em diversas universidades estrangeiras, realizou numerosas conferências e coordenou vários projetos científicos internacionais. A sua área de investigação preferencial é a história social e política do Antigo Regime e do primeiro liberalismo. Entre mais de duzentos e cinquenta títulos, é autor de O Crepúsculo dos Grandes (2.ª ed. 2003), Elites e Poder (3.ª ed. 2012), coautor da História de Portugal (11. ª ed., 2021), co-coord. da História Contemporânea de Portugal (5 v., 2013/2015, F. Mapfre), de Um reino e suas Repúblicas na Atlântico (C. Brasileira, 2017), e de Political Thought in Portugal and its Empire, c.1500–1800 (CUP, 2021).
