Noël Carroll

Noël Carroll, nascido em 1947, é um filósofo americano considerado uma autoridade e figura cimeira tanto na filosofia contemporânea da arte como na análise da estética cinematográfica. Os seus trabalhos incidem então particularmente sobre a filosofia da arte, a teoria dos média e também sobre a filosofia da história, abrangendo ainda as áreas da filosofia da literatura e da teoria social da cultura.

Doutorado em Filosofia e em Estudos de Cinema, foi presidente da American Society of Aesthetics, e é atualmente professor de Filosofia no CUNY Graduate Center, em Nova Iorque.

É autor de onze títulos, de que se destacam e The Philosophy of Motion Pictures, Beyond Aesthetics, The Philosophy of Horror e Philosophy of MassArt.

Tem também actividade jornalística intensa, publicando regularmente artigos em periódicos como Chicago Reader, ARTforum, InThese Times, Dance Magazine, Soho Weekly News e The Village Voice.
