Natsu Miyashita nasceu em 1967, na província de Fukui, no Japão. Formada em Filosofia na Universidade Sofia, sempre teve uma paixão pela leitura e pela escrita. Ainda muito nova, aprendeu a tocar piano. A Floresta de Lã e Aço venceu o Prémio dos Livreiros Japoneses para Melhor Livro do Ano e foi finalista do Naoki Prize, tendo depois sido adaptado para cinema pelo realizador Kojiro Hashimoto.
