Michael Seewald nasceu em 1987 e é o mais jovem catedrático de Teologia na Alemanha. Foi agraciado com vários prémios científicos, entre os quais o Prémio Karl Rahner (pelas suas investigações sobre o Iluminismo na dogmática católica) e o Prémio Heinz Maier Leibnitz da Fundação Alemã de Investigação Científica. Ocupa a cátedra de Teologia Dogmática e História dos Dogmas na Universidade de Münster (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster) e tem centrado as suas investigações nas teorias da evolução do dogma, na teologia do Iluminismo e na estabilidade e no dinamismo das imagens religiosas do ser humano, entre outros temas. É autor de inúmeros artigos em publicações especializadas, bem como de vários livros. O Dogma em Evolução é a primeira obra da sua autoria a ser publicada em Portugal.
