Melanie Phillips
Melanie Phillips, a British journalist, well known for her controversial column on political and social issues in the Daily Mail, was awarded the Orwell Prize in 1996. Author of several works and studies, most notably the report she prepared on the crisis in the British education system, which provoked the fury of educators and the relief of parents. Her ideas have influenced politicians in both government and opposition, who follow with fascination the battles she wages. Classified as conservative by her critics, she prefers to think of herself as a defender of liberal values, fighting against the attempt to destroy Western culture.
