Martin Waddell
Martin Waddell was born in 1941 in Belfast.
When I was little, I wanted to be a football player, but
the love for books and storytelling quickly overcame the passion for the ball. He writes for adults as well, but soon turned to children's literature. His books for the youngest reflect his life and experiences in a country of contrasts like Northern Ireland — as he himself says: "As an adult, I was blown up [in 1972 he survived a bomb attack in a church], buried alive, had cancer and survived all these experiences: I am a very lucky man." In 2004, he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his body of work.
