His books include a global history of malaria and a social history of the 1918 influenza pandemic.
He also works as a professional historian, publishing in the areas of History of Medicine, Social History of Medicine, and History and Philosophy of Life Sciences.
Before becoming a full-time writer and researcher, he had a long career as an investigative journalist and newspaper editor. Evening Standard, Independente on Sunday, The Observer and The guardian.
