Mario Delgado Aparaín nasceu em Florida, no Uruguai, em 1949. Escritor, professor e jornalista. Autor de três livros de contos, Las llaves de Francia (1981), Causa de buena muerte (1982) e La leyenda del Fabulosísimo Cappi y otras historias (Alfaguara, 1999); e de cinco romances, Estado de gracia (1983), El día del cometa (1985), A balada de Johnny Sosa (1987), Por mandato de madre (Alfaguara, 1996) e Alívio de luto (Alfaguara, 1998). O livro A balada de Johnny Sosa ganhou o Prémio Municipal de Literatura em 1988. Foi editado em Espanha e traduzido no Brasil, Holanda, França, Itália, Alemanha, Portugal e Grécia.
