Mariana Gray de Castro é licenciada e mestre em literatura inglesa e portuguesa pela Universidade de Oxford, e doutorada pela King's College London. Fez um pós-doutoramento nas Universidades de Oxford (onde também foi professora convidada durante 10 anos) e na Universidade de Lisboa. Publicou mais de 20 artigos e capítulos em livros sobre Fernando Pessoa, e o seu livro Shakespeare, Fernando Pessoa, e a invenção dos heterónimos (2017) propõe uma nova teoria sobre a heteronímia.
