Maria Simão é o pseudónimo de Maria de Lourdes Fernandes Martins e Castro, nascida em Miranda do Douro em 11 de fevereiro de 1941.
Cresceu com a musicalidade da Língua Mirandesa por perto. Com a mesma se encantava e sorria.
Professora do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, teve como causa maior despertar os seus alunos para a beleza da Língua Portuguesa, dando especial atenção à Poesia, sua musicalidade, rima, mensagem, sonho, fingimento…
