Maria Leal da Costa nasceu em Évora em 1964. Fez o curso de Design de Interiores da Escola António Arroio e entre 1982 e 1986 frequentou o curso de Escultura da Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa. Expõe os seus trabalhos desde 1994. Tem atelier na Quinta do Barrieiro, Marvão, Portugal, onde vive e trabalha desde 1999.
