Maria João Castro é investigadora académica em História de Arte na Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Na sua área de especialização, tem vindo a debruçar-se sobre temas afetos à Cultura Contemporânea e aos Estudos Artísticos, focando-se quer na relação da Arte com o Poder, quer no que concerne à Viagem e aos estudos (Pós) Coloniais. Publicou vários títulos nesse âmbito, nomeadamente: Notas de Viagem (2012), Itinerários Perdidos (2013), Transiberiana (2014), Zanzibar e Arte de um (Re)Encontro (2016). Colabora como cronista de viagens na revista Across, Luxury, Travel & Safaris.
