Maria Alice Samara nasceu em Lisboa, em abril de 1974. É doutoranda e investigadora do Instituto de História Contemporânea da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. O seu trabalho tem-se focado sobre diversos temas relacionados com a Primeira República, destacando-se as seguintes obras publicadas: «Sidónio Pais», Fotobiografias do Século XX (coordenação de Joaquim Vieira), Lisboa, Círculo de Leitores, 2002; «Verdes e Vermelhos. Portugal e a Guerra no Ano de Sidónio Pais», Lisboa, Editorial Notícias, 2003 (Prémio Fundação Mário Soares 2003); «Operárias e Burguesas. As Mulheres no Tempo da República», Lisboa, Esfera dos Livros, 2007.
