Escritora, cineasta e dramaturga, Marguerite Duras (Marguerite Donnadieu) nasceu no Vietname em 1914 e morreu em 1996, em França. Foi uma das mais relevantes escritoras francesas da segunda metade do século XX. A sua obra, habitada por personagens em busca de amor até aos limites da loucura ou do crime, foi visceralmente marcada pela juventude passada na Indochina. Entre os seus muitos livros, como A Dor, Uma Barragem contra o Pacífico, Moderato Cantabile, para mencionar apenas alguns, o seu romance autobiográfico O Amante foi adaptado ao cinema. Marguerite Duras também assinou o argumento do filme Hiroshima, Meu Amor, levado à tela por Alain Resnais.
