Marco Pacheco é «açoriano de várias ilhas», nasceu em São Jorge poucos meses depois do 25 de Abril, tendo vivido também na Terceira e em São Miguel, antes de voar para Lisboa, cidade onde perdeu o sotaque e ganhou o gosto pela escrita. Hoje diretor criativo executivo da BBDO, escreve muito, mas sobretudo para marcas. Ao fim de 21 anos de carreira, decidiu aventurar-se na ficção, sendo A Guerra Prometida o seu primeiro romance. Influências, teve muitas, e foram mudando com a idade. Primeiro, canções de tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Rui Reininho e Morrissey, entre outros. Depois, poetas sem banda e ficcionistas: Fernando Pessoa, Mário de Carvalho, Lobo Antunes, Raul Brandão, Proust, Don DeLillo… «Estes, e muitos outros, fizeram de mim leitor e, quem sabe, um dia, escritor.»
