Marcel Mauss (1872–1950) foi um etnólogo e sociólogo francês. Celebrizou-se pelos seus grandes contributos para o estudo e desenvolvimento da Sociologia. Começou a sua carreira como professor em 1902 e, em 1925, fundou o Instituto de Etnologia da Universidade de Paris, ano em que publicou Ensaio sobre a Dádiva, a sua obra mais importante. Mauss dedicou-se ainda ao estudo das artes mágicas.
