Manuel da Silva Rosa nasceu na ilha do Pico, nos Açores, em 1961. Desde 1991, dedica-se a uma profunda investigação científica da vida de Colombo numa incansável busca pela verdade. É considerado um dos grandes especialistas mundiais sobre o tema. É regularmente convidado para apresentações em diversas universidades e também em meios de comunicação social, por exemplo, no jornal Público, na SIC, na RTP, na BBC Radio, no WNPR, no El Mundo, no Telegraph, no New York Daily, e apareceu também na capa da revista Newsweek polaca.
