Manuel Collares Pereira Engenheiro eletrotécnico (IST – 1974) e Ph.D. em Física (Universidade de Chicago, 1979). Desde abril de 2019 está na situação de reformado. Anteriormente foi Professor em diversas instituições e Investigador na área das Energias Renováveis. Presidente do Instituto Português de Energia Solar, até ao presente. Fundador do Centro para a Conservação de Energia e da Sociedade Portuguesa de Energia Solar. Foi fundador e CSO de várias empresas na área da energia, assim como editor associado da Solar Energy (Elsevier). É o autor do livro As Energias Renováveis: a Opção Inadiável (1998) e de um grande número de publicações científicas. Foi proponente e coordenador de muito projetos nacionais e europeus, incluindo o programa Horizon 2020. Recebeu vários prémios, com destaque para o Heating and Cooling Award for Lifetime Achievement, da Agência Internacional de Energia (IEA).
