A série Pequena Loja dos Sustos foi traduzida para mais de 30 idiomas. Entre os vários prémios conquistados por Hai encontram-se o Finlandia Prize for children's and YA literature e a nomeação para o Nordic Council Children & Young People's Literature Prize.
Além da escrita, Magdalena Hai também se dedica ao ensino de Escrita e trabalha como editora na cooperativa editorial Osuuskumma.
