Licenciado em Matemática pela Universidade de Coimbra. Mestre em Informática pela Universidade do Minho. Doutorado em Matemática pela Universidade de St Andrews, Escócia. Professor no Departamento de Matemática da Universidade de Aveiro.

É investigador no Grupo de Álgebra e Geometria do Centro de Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Matemática e Aplicações (CIDMA) tendo publicados trabalhos cientifícos na área de Álgebra. Integra a linha temática MATEAS - Matemática: Ensino e Avaliação no (ensino) Superior e o grupo de investigação e desenvolvimento de software SIACUA - Sistema Interativo de Aprendizagem por Computador da Universidade de Aveiro, tendo publicado alguns trabalhos na área de Avaliação no Ensino (Superior).
