Luís Calado é Professor Catedrático no Departamento de Engenharia Civil e Arquitectura do Instituto Superior Técnico, onde desenvolve actividades de ensino, investigação e consultoria nas áreas da Mecânica Estrutural e Estruturas Metálicas e Mistas. Até ao ano de 2000 desenvolveu também actividade no domínio do projecto de estruturas. É o representante nacional na Comissão Técnica CEN/TC250/SC4 do Eurocódigo 4 no Comité Europeu de Normalização, tendo participado na elaboração da EN 1994-1-1. É também vogal da Comissão Técnica Portuguesa de Normalização para os Eurocódigos Estruturais (IPQ/CT115), onde coordena o grupo de trabalho responsável pela preparação dos Anexos Nacionais e pela tradução do Eurocódigo 4.
