Nasceu em Gomes Aires, concelho de Almodôvar. Ainda adolescente, foi viver para a Baixa da Banheira, onde sempre manteve fortes ligações com a grande comunidade alentejana ali residente e com o movimento associativo local. Participou nos movimentos democráticos de oposição ao regime salazarista-marcelista. Desde muito jovem que colabora com a imprensa local. Tem trabalhos de prosa e de poesia publicados na secção juvenil do jornal "Diário de Lisboa" e nos jornais "República" e "Diário do Alentejo". Actualmente, é o chefe de redacção do quinzenário "O Rio".
