Lisa Ballantyne was born in Armadale, Scotland, and studied English Literature at the University of St. Andrews. She worked for several years in China in the areas of international development, education, and more recently for small Chinese and English magazines. She returned to the UK in 2002. She currently works at the University of Glasgow.
