Lira Neto
Lira Neto was born in Fortaleza in 1963. A journalist and writer, he has published twelve books and has received the Jabuti Prize four times, notably for his biographies. Father Cícero: Power, faith, and war in the backlands. (2009), winner of the Jabuti Prize in 2010, and the trilogy Getúlio (2012-14), the second volume of which was awarded a prize in 2014. He studied Philosophy and Communication and, before dedicating himself to journalism, was a professor of History and Literature. With a preface by Esther Mucznick, Torn from the Earth, reconstructs the history and trajectory of the Sephardic Jews, expelled from the Iberian Peninsula by the Inquisition, who took refuge in Holland, occupied Brazil and helped build New York.
