Linda Carlino, falecida em 2010, era uma apaixonada por história e ficção histórica, com especial interesse pelos séculos XV e XVI. Foi professora em Barnard Castle e consultora numa editora de livros infantis. Nos últimos anos da sua vida, dedicou-se a tempo inteiro à investigação, às viagens e à escrita. Nessa fase, passou longos períodos em Espanha, onde levou a cabo exaustivas e aprofundadas investigações nas mais prestigiadas bibliotecas. A Presença publicou o seu primeiro romance, Joana, a Louca, nesta coleção.
