Leah Fleming
Leah Fleming was born in Lancashire to Scottish parents. She is married, has four grown children and four grandchildren. Her favorite places to write are her somewhat haunted farmhouse in Yorkshire, or the hillside of an olive grove on the island of Crete.
She graduated from Leeds University in the roaring sixties, was a primary school teacher, and taught literature to adults. Upon moving to Yorkshire, she opened a catering business and gave workshops on combating stress.
She is the author of, among many other novels, The Girl Under the Olive Tree, The Postcard, and The Last Pearl, which have been acclaimed by both the public and critics.
With this title, The Captain's Daughter, she won the 2012 Rome Prize for translated fiction.
