Lea Kampe é o pseudónimo de Iris Claere Mueller, que nasceu em Mannheim em 1971 e cresceu em Bad Wimpfen, perto de Heilbronn. Depois de estudar Alemão, Filosofia e Ciências Políticas na Universidade de Heidelberg, mudou-se para os EUA onde concluiu o doutoramento em Estudos Medievais na Universidade de Yale. Vive com o marido em Salerno, no sul de Itália, desde 2005. Na vizinha Nápoles, trabalha na Escola Internacional e ensina História Medieval na Universidade de Maryland Europe.
