Lars Gustafsson, nascido em 1936, além de reconhecido no seu país natal, a Suécia, é um escritor mundialmente consagrado nas áreas da ficção, poesia, drama, ensaio e reportagem sobre vários temas.
Autor de uma vasta obra, foi com A Morte de um Apicultor— publicado originalmente em Estocolmo em 1978 — que atingiu o reconhecimento internacional. A sua obra, traduzida em mais de 15 idiomas, obteve reconhecimento internacional com elogios da crítica, várias dezenas de prémios literários e a nomeação para o Prémio Nobel da Literatura. Foi ainda incluído por Harold Bloom no seu livro O Cânone Ocidental.
Morreu em abril de 2016.
