Kiley Reid nasceu em Los Angeles, Estados Unidos da América, em 1987. Estudou teatro em Nova Iorque, no Marymount Manhattan College, além de escrita criativa no Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Trabalhou como baby-sitter durante seis anos, em Nova Iorque, antes de se dedicar à literatura. Os Melhores Anos, o seu livro de estreia, amplamente elogiado nos EUA por publicações de referência, tais como o Washington Post, o New York Times, a Entertainment Weekly e a The Atlantic, esteve também nomeado no Reino Unido para o Booker Prize de 2020.
